The Gods

The Gods of Asatru

Most of the gods descend from either the Aesir or the Vanir. The Aesir gods are mainly the gods of War, Power and Wisdom whilst the Vanir are associated with Nature and Magic. The exception of course is the trickster Loki as well as Mimir and the goddess Skadi, who all come from the front giants. The three giants are united with the Aesir.

The gods are very powerful, but like us humans are subject to fate and all that we have to go through on a daily basis.

Odin – The first and foremost of the gods. He is the ruling god, the battle god and the god of poetry and death. He has a passion for knowledge, and offered one of his eyes to Mimir in his search for wisdom.

Thor (ÞÓRR) – Thor is Odin’s son and the strongest of all the Aesir. We know him as the lord of thunder and the protector of all Midgard and the realm of Asgard.

Frigg (Frigga) – is the first of the goddesses and wife of Odin. She is the Queen of the Gods and the goddess of love and marriage.

Freyr – rules over the sun and the rain. He is also the god of wealth and fertility, whilst reigning over peace. Freyr is also the brother tho Freyja.

Freyja – She is a contradictory goddess with power over death and love. She is Freyr’s sister and taught Odin the mystery of spells, being very understanding to the magical arts.

Freyja (/ˈfreɪə/; Old Norse for “(the) Lady”) is a goddess associated with love, beauty, fertility, gold, and seiðr. Freyja is the owner of the necklace Brísingamen, rides a chariot pulled by two cats, is accompanied by the boar Hildisvíni, and possesses a cloak of falcon feathers.
